The MB ACS Network STEMI Algorithm

Where Can you Locate the Algorithm?

The STEMI algorithm is posted on the Cardiac Sciences Manitoba website at: STEMI-Algorithm-FINAL.pdf

Who Should Refer to the Algorithm?

The algorithm provides guidance for staff working in Winnipeg and rural ED/Urgent Care healthcare facilities in the province of MB.

How Does the Algorithm Guide Care Decisions?

The decision regarding reperfusion therapy is based on if the patient can arrive to St. Boniface within 100 minutes of first medical contact.

Candidate for Primary PCI: Patient can arrive to St. Boniface Hospital within 100 minutes of first medical contact:

·       For all facilities except for SBH: Contact VECTRS. VECTRS will coordinate a conference call with all providers, including the Code STEMI on call physician and the transport physician

·       For SBH:

o   Algorithm provides guidance on who to call during regular business hours and weekends/statutory holidays

·       Provides recommendations on adjunctive medications that should be administered prior to transport

Candidate for fibrinolytic Therapy: Patient cannot arrive to St. Boniface Hospital within 100 minutes of first medical contact

·       Dosing of fibrinolytic and adjunctive medications based on the patient’s age

·       Absolute and relative contraindications to fibrinolytics

·       Who to call to arrange transport

·       Recommended monitoring guidelines pre and post fibrinolytic

What is Provider is Uncertain if STEMI?

·       Provides direction on who to contact for assistance
